Biblical Communication

We believe that the Bible, God’s inspired Word, is our foundation and is to be consistently communicated by such forms as teaching, preaching, correcting, rebuking, witnessing and the creative arts. The biblical pattern of communication is to speak the truth in love; therefore negative forms of communication such as non-constructive criticism, gossip and slander are not biblical, are unacceptable and will be properly addressed.

Psalm 1:1-3, 119:11,105; Matthew 5:23-26, 18:15-17; Ephesians 4:15, 6:19-20; Colossians 3:16; 2 Timothy 2:15-16, 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; James 1:22

Christ-Centered Leadership

We believe that Christ modeled servant leadership and demonstrated a timeless approach to leadership development.  Christ poured into the lives of a small group of followers and then empowered those followers to go and lead others.  We believe that the vision that God gives a local church will be expanded or constrained in direct proportion to the church’s intentionality in developing leaders in the image of Christ.

Luke 9:1-6, 10:1-4; John 13:12-17; Acts 6:2-7; Romans 12:6-8; 1 Peter 5:1-4

Externally Focused

We believe that God has given us the responsibility to share the way of salvation through Jesus Christ with people headed to an eternity separated from God. Hell is a real place and real people go there. The Holy Spirit empowers us to reach these people whether across the street or around the world. We also believe that God has called us to serve those that are oppressed, suffering and marginalized in this world. Christ commands us to seek the Lost and serve the least.

Matthew 5:13-16, 9:12,37-38, 25:31-46, 28:16-20; Acts 1:8, 2:42-47, 5:28-29, 13:47; 1 Peter 3:15

Holy Spirit Empowered

We believe that scripture promotes a very optimistic view of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christ follower.  We believe that the power and presence of the Holy Spirit frees a person to be consumed by a love for God and others. Outward changes are evident as the fruit of the Spirit becomes more recognizable, but also an inward passion to utilize their God given gifts begins to emerge.  Christian maturity is directly proportional to a person’s willingness to listen to and obey the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 3:11-12; John 15:26; Acts 2:1-4; Romans 8:1-17; 1 Thessalonians 5:23

Prayer

We believe that God desires our prayers and God’s house is to be a house of prayer. Jesus taught us how to pray and demonstrated the power of prayer. Prayer is two-way communication with the Almighty God. Prayer acknowledges our dependence on God. We believe that prayer should undergird all of our activities in ministry.

Matthew 5:44, 6:5-15; John 17; Ephesians 6:18-20; Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17, 1 Timothy 2:1-8
